A voice
from the China National Team
Gao Hong has always been an independent acting and thinking person, so it is no surprise that she is the first Chinese National Team player to go public with her views about her former coach. In the years that I have known her she has been introspective at times but always thoughtful about life and its purpose. Her sense of humor has sometime been misunderstood yet she has always taken her game seriously. She is one of WSW's top five goalies in the world, and mentally and physically she was aleways the strongest member of China's National Team.
The style of coaching women athletes in asian countries is often reminiscent of Eastern Europe before the break up of the Soviet Union. Much like the style seen at the last few Olympics in women's volleyball as practiced by the Russian Coach Karpol. Indeed he had also been the Soviet Union coach.
