January 22, 2001 Flor Maria Romero Rivera After a tough start, the Women's Mexican Soccer League (LMFF in Spanish) ended its inaugural season in Guadalajara last Saturday(Jan 20) when Atlas, winner of the west zone, defeated 2 -1 IPN the winner of the central zone. An early goal by the Atlas team opened the way to victory when the IPN goalkeeper made a bad mistake that Ericka Pérez took advantage of and scored the first goal. Atlas took control of the game until the second half when the IPN created more goal opportunities, but even though they were playing their best soccer Atlas once again scored. The IPN squad showed a lot of courage and although they were down by 2 goals they still created some goal opportunities. In the 71st minute Maria Castillo won a head ball and scored for the IPN team on a corner kick play. From that minute and until the end of the game the IPN team took control of the ball but they were unable to tie the match. IPN's captain Marcela Mendez played a very good game and some minutes before the end created their last chance when she took a free kick which ripped by the Atlas goalkeeperYesenia González, and hit the crossbar. It bounced inside the penaltie box but IPN was unable to score. The next Championship starts on February 3, 2001
