November 20, 2002 Washington State Head Coach Dan Tobias named Pac-10 Coach of the Year Washington State Head Coach Dan Tobias was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year. This season he took the Cougars to their second NCAA Tournament appearance in three years. In five seasons Tobias has led WSU to 44 wins in the program.Their best five-year span since 1989-93. In 2002, Washington State recorded all-time bests in conference wins with five, consecutive conference wins with four, and best conference finish at third. "I am honored for it means that other coaches in the conference think we have a very good team," Tobias said."It is team recognition, and that is what is most important. This shows that we have a good team and a hard-working coaching staff. Curtis McAlister and Lisa Oyen are two of the best assistants in the country."
