August 28, 2000 U.S. Navy in San Diego to launch U.S.Olympic Team with a nautical send-off on Tuesday, August 29, 2000 Team and staff delegation will board four CH-45 Sea Knight Marine helicopters and will be taken onboard the U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego. They receive a tour of the ship from Captain Robert J. Connelly, before addressing the ship's crew in a ceremony on deck. In addition to an exchange of gifts, the U.S. team will present to Captain Connelly a white game jersey with RICHARD (pronounced Ree-shard) and a number 6 (for the ship's hull number) on the back. The jersey will stay on the ship as long as she is sailing. | COMMENTARY | US
