Heinrichs to choose players from U-21 Camp in Chula Vista for National Team game against Italy in Rome and at Algarve Cup in Portugal

U.S. National Team Head Coach April Heinrichs and Under-21 Head Coach Jillian Ellis will hold an eight-day training camp at the ARCO U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., from Feb. 18-25 with the U.S. U-21 Women's National Team.

The camp will be used to held choose the majority of the full U.S. Women's National Team roster for a European tour. Starting with a match against Italy in Rieti outside of Rome on March 7, and followed by the 2001 Algarve Cup in Portugal.

With the U.S. veterans unavailable due to commitments to their WUSA clubs, players will get a chance to compete against some of the best teams in the world. Six players from the training camp roster traveled to China with the U.S. in January.

The bulk of the players for the Algarve Cup are expected to come from the U-21 National Team pool, and Ellis will take an increased role in the day-to day coaching of the squad during the Italy match and the Algarve Cup tournament. 12 of the players in this camp have earned caps with the full national team. The Algarve Cup draw will be announced in the near future.
